Stand-up Tanning Booths vs. Lay-Down Tanning Beds?
Are the stand-up tanning booths better than the lay-down tanning beds? I have been going tanning for a week now and I am fair-skinned, but can get a tan. I go in a level 3 tanning booth and it’s my first time doing indoor tanning. I am a little red from it but I am starting to see some color. Should I switch to lay-down or will it not make a difference? What is the difference between the 2 and which one will give me better results?
Please don’t answer this question if you’re just going to tell me that tanning is bad. It isn’t as bad as you think … I go in a tanning booth with only 2% of the bad rays compared to outside rays which are God knows how much percent bad rays.
Thanks!
First of all, thank you for mentioning that indoor tanning is not as bad as people say. There are too many people here in the skin section of Y/A that preach against tanning without even knowing the facts! They just mimic what they hear in the media, most of which is driven by cosmetics companies that want to sell more sunscreen. And then they never mention the positive benefits of UV rays, like Vitamin D, increased energy and elevated mood.
Anyway, back to your question. A stand up booth will give you a more even tan. When you lay on the bed, your body has pressure points which will not tan. You can get a nice tan in a lay down bed, but the stand up is more effective and even tanning.
Another thing I want to mention to you is that if you do see redness, do not tan again until at least 48 hours have passed. I assume you don’t mean a temporary redness from a tingle lotion, but a pinkness or redness from your skin. This is a mild sunburn. If this occurs, it’s better to shorten your sessions until you can do it without even the slightest burn. When you’ve done this, you can increase your next session. What is happening is that your skin is building a base tan, which is a natural protection against sunburn. Untill you’ve developed a base tan, stick with the lower lever beds and just adjust your times accordingly.
Hope I helped.

Hi, some different would be in a lay-down some times you get those lines and in a stand up you can turn all around their for you don’t get those lines and a more even tan.
