where do I find what type of insurance I need for starting a new business?

By Sonni · Thursday

looking for insurance on a tanning salon, laundry mat, and small workout gym. The workout gym and tanning beds would be in the same facility. The laundry mat would be in it’s own facility.

You need to call your Secretary of State’s office. They will send you all of the paperwork you need to fill out to register your business name etc. and they will also be able to tell you what kinds of insurance you are required to carry in your state. It varies from state to state. You will also need to contact your city and ask the same questions.

Look in the yellow pages for business insurance. You’ll need fire, auto, general, liability, and maybe riders for business continuity. If you’re going to have employees, you will need workers comp. Shop around, because the rates will be all over the map and you will need to determine the tradeoff for a flaky carrier and a low rate.
