When choosing tanning booths for your salon you have to make sure you pick the types that will work best for your business. There are many different types of tanning booths, all with their different tanning effects, style, layout, price and the amount of time needed in the booth. The three main styles of tanning are UV, spray and airbrush tanning.
UV tanning is currently the most popular form. It uses tanning bulbs built into beds or stand up booths to deliver UV rays to the customer. The rays are given in safer levels than the sun to limit the chances of burns or skin damage. It usually takes multiple trips to get to a noticeably darker skin tone. UV tanning mimics natural tanning unlike the other types.
For most people lying down on the bed is extremely relaxing. Where as some find the same for stand up tanning booths, others find them tiring and uncomfortable. So it is a good idea to get standing up tanning booths after you already have ones to lay down in. While lying down is more comfortable for some, stand up tanning booths are able to tan more of the skin. This is because the customer is able to keep their arms over their heads letting the rays reach under their arms. When lying down on the bed your arms are close to your sides leaving the underarm area unexposed. Depending on how the customer lies on the bed their arms can also affect how much rays the sides get.
Some days customers come to the salon as a way to just relax. Their body is already at their preferred level of tan, or they do not care to be tanned at the moment. They just want the nice relaxing heat on them. This is a time when the stand up beds are nice. However the same customers may come in the next time wanting a more thorough tan. By having the options of both lying down and standing up they are able to switch between the two depending on how they feel.
Spray tanning booths and Airbrush tanning are the other types of tanning besides UV. Spray tanning booths are walk in booths. The customer stands in the middle of the booth and a tanning liquid is evenly sprayed onto them. The spraying lasts under a minute and the tan can be seen right away. The tan will also continue to darken more over the next few hours. Airbrush tanning is applied with tanning liquid and an air compressor. The staff has to be trained to do this. The results can be amazing since the tan can be applied to highlight or hide certain parts of the body.
Look into what types of tanning are needed in your area before you purchase any equipment. Also see what other tanning salons in the area offer. Starting a new business takes a lot of time and money. You need to make sure you make the right decisions so you do not waste either of those. Ensuring you purchase the tanning booths and other equipment right will help make this an exciting start to a great business.
