This is because they buy into the franchises then realize too late it will not work for them or their location. Do not just look at the numbers of locations a company has when deciding where to go. A tanning franchise makes all of its money off the work owners like you do. Every day they will be taking part of your profit. They feed off people who do not have the confidence in themselves to start and run their own business. They hand you a plan, give you some advice and then sit back and let the money come it. The franchises say this is so all locations will have the same standards, but it is really because they make a commission off of your purchases. If you really like the equipment one company uses it is easy to find the same beds used, and at a fraction of the cost.
Franchises boast themselves as being able to thoroughly train you and your staff. They make it seem like without them you will be wandering around in the dark not knowing what anything is. However there are many independently run sunless training courses and seminars. By having your own business you are able to choose those you think will best help you. Pick those that will teach you want you want and need to know, and not waste your time hearing someone retelling you the same basic facts.
While there are quite a few legitimate, successful tanning franchises around, it is still almost always a better idea to open your own. You can take the best of everything and mix it together in a way that will be successful in your community. Do not let yourself be conned into investing your savings into a tanning franchise that only cares about taking your money, not creating more for you.
